Darjeeling Turzum Moonlit Smoky Black tea 2025

SKU: T/Smoky/Ex53/25

Crafted under the celestial glow of the November 2025 Kartik Purnima full moon, this tea is a rare convergence of ancient mysticism and artisanal mastery. Naturally withered by the gentle autumnal sun and subjected to hours of patient, rhythmic hand-rolling, the leaves were cradled in bamboo baskets over a flickering pinewood fire. This traditional "bamboo blanket" smoking technique allowed the tea to absorb a deep, authentic smokiness from the pinewood while being left exposed to the night air to capture the ethereal properties of the moonlight. The result is a deeply soulful cup that balances the primal, aromatic richness of the pine wood with the serene purity of the sacred night that surrounded its creation.

Evaluator's Note: The balance between "subtle smokiness" and "malty sweetness" makes this a sophisticated cup. It lacks the harshness often found in lower-grade smoked teas, making it accessible to both connoisseurs and casual drinkers.

BREWING INTRUCTIONS

Use filtered or bottled water.

Heat the water to 90°C to 95°C.

Put in 2.5 g of loose tea for every cup (180 ml).

Let it steep for 3 to 5 minutes.

Strain into a cup and serve.

Straight (Black): Highly recommended to appreciate the complexity of the spicy middle notes and cognac clarity with smokiness.

With Milk: The tea stands up well to a dash of frothy milk, which accentuates a natural creamy character and enhances the inherent sweetness.

tasting note

  • Physical Characteristics: Hand-rolled, whole leaves and buds. The color profile is deep, ranging from blackish to brownish.
  • Visual Highlights: Distinct presence of golden hairy tips, indicating a high pluck quality (fine bud content).
  • Dry Aroma: Strong "well-fired" toasty notes. The smokiness is subtle and well-integrated rather than overpowering.

Infusion (The "Wet Leaf")

  • Appearance: The infusion is bright and vibrant, clearly displaying the integrity of the whole leaves and tips.
  • Aroma: A "sweet smoky" nose, suggesting that the smoke treatment was clean and didn't mask the natural sweetness of the leaf.

 Liquor Characteristics

  • Visual: A stunning cognac-like color. The liquor is notably clean and transparent, maintaining high clarity (bottom of the cup is visible).
  • Flavor Profile: * Primary: Balanced smoke and malt.
  • Mid-Palate: An "interesting bouquet" featuring a distinct spicy note in the middle.
  • Body: Natural sweetness that provides a foundation for the smokier elements.
