ABOUT THE GARDEN

The Balasun Tea Estate stands as a testament to the rich history and dedication to quality that defines Darjeeling tea. Nestled amidst picturesque landscapes near Sonada, this estate boasts an ideal combination of altitude, climate, and natural beauty that contributes to its renowned tea production. Established in 1871 by M/s Davenport & Company Ltd., the plantation initially carried the name Nahore Balasun, derived from the Lepcha dialect. Over time, it came to be known simply as Balasun, named after the river that gracefully meanders through its grounds. Jay Shree Tea and Industries took ownership of the estate in 2005 and embarked on a journey of rejuvenation and modernisation. Through significant investments in infrastructure, technology, and employee welfare, the management has propelled Balasun Tea Estate to new heights of excellence. Balasun Tea Estate's commitment to quality and sustainability is evident through its various certifications, including Fair Trade certification from FLO-CERT, HACCP certification by TUV-NORD, UTZ certification by IMO, and SAN/Rainforest Alliance certification from IMO. These accolades underscore the estate's adherence to ethical and environmental standards, ensuring that its tea not only delights the palate but also supports responsible practices. Visitors to Balasun Tea Estate are treated to more than just a cup of tea; they immerse themselves in a holistic experience that encompasses the beauty of nature, the legacy of tradition, and the promise of a sustainable future. From the rolling hills adorned with tea bushes to the vibrant flora of the surrounding forests, every aspect of Balasun exudes tranquillity and harmony with the environment. With its strategic location near Sonada and easy accessibility from Siliguri and Bagdogra Airport, Balasun Tea Estate invites enthusiasts of tea, nature, and culture to indulge in an unforgettable journey through the heart of Darjeeling's tea country.
