ABOUT THE GARDEN

"Manjushree Tea Estate was created by clearing the forest land on the Towkak tea garden. The garden is a well-planned and an idea tea estate with motor able roads all around making it very convenient to supervise the plantation while moving in a vehicle. This 403.38 hectare tea estate compromising of Lakamian, Manjushree and Ladoigarh divisions is situated near the historical city of Sonari, in the Sibsagar district of upper Assam. It is claimed that the original name of Sonari was Sonapur. During the Ahom king’s period in 1253 AD, the goldsmiths working for the Ahom royals lived here giving the name of the town (the Assamese word for goldsmith is Sonari). The city is famous for the ancient temple of Lord Shiva constructed by the Ahom kings and other historical monuments like Rang Ghar (entertainment palace of the Ahom kings), Karang Ghar (King’s palace), and Talatal Ghar (assembly place). Sonari is a centre for tea and timber industries and is the gateway to the Mon district of Nagaland. The estate is surrounded by government reserve forest inhabited by a variety of wild life and river Towkak acts as a natural boundary on its western side. Manjushree factory is well known for its architectural beauty and picturesque views. It is a favourite location for Assamese films. The garden maintains 38 beds capacity hospital which has won the best well maintained hospital in the Charideo sub division. Regularly frequented by buyers from Germany, the garden is well accessible by roads, rail and airways. National Highway 37 is about 52 K.M. from the Garden. The nearest Railway station Bhojo (Broad Gauge) is around 12 K.M. from the Tea Estate. The Airports near the gardens are at Jorhat & Dibrugarh. "
