ABOUT THE GARDEN

Nestled in Darjeeling's Rungbong valley, the picturesque Sungma Tea Estate, established between 1863 and 1868, thrives in a cool, misty climate ideal for producing high-quality tea. Originally planted with Chinary seed stock, it merged with Turzum post-1934 earthquake. Under Jayshree Tea's stewardship since 1993, continuous investment has enhanced its tea's quality, making it a premium producer accessible by a robust road network.

tasting note

I. Dry Leaf Analysis-The dry leaf presentation is characterized by its remarkable freshness and "open" architecture. These lush green leaves remain beautifully intact, complemented by a striking presence of slender, silver tips. The lack of tight compression suggests a very gentle handling during the rolling process, allowing the leaves to retain their natural, airy elegance and clonal vibrancy.

II. Infusion The infused leaf settles into a deep, consistent olive green appearance. The olfactory profile is particularly unique, offering a tender jujuba aroma that indicates a high concentration of essential oils. This clean, botanical scent serves as a precursor to the complexity found in the cup.

III. Liquor AssessmentThe liquor is a brilliant primrose, distinguished by a prominent shining rim (or halo) around the edges of the cup—a hallmark of superior quality and high tea-fluid density. The palate is unexpectedly indulgent, revealing a sophisticated butterscotch touch that provides a creamy, rounded depth. This sweetness is intricately layered with a clear jasmine note, which is further brightened by a delicate white daisy floral accent in the background. The evaluation concludes with a sweet astringency. Unlike a sharp or drying finish, this is a "juicy" sensation that cleanses the palate while extending the floral and butterscotch aftertaste.
